One of the great things about this time of year is the onslaught of horror films that are suddenly everywhere. It doesn’t matter that I’ve seen most of them multiple times (I’m somewhat of a horror film fanatic) or that I don’t think that many of them are scary whatsoever – gorging on horror classics have come to be a traditional part of my fall season.
One of my dreams is to write a horror film that is truly terrifying, which is why I’m so intrigued that the designers behind the fashion label Vena Cava decided to create a horror film of their own for their Fall collection. Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock were inspired by 1970s neo-noir films and cults. There’s not a ton of information about this movie but from the bits and pieces that I’ve been able to gather, Heartland is the story of a women’s cult led by one man that becomes a popular artists collective.
And allow me to let you in on a little secret. Cults are effin SCARY, yo. Downright terrifying. All those mind games, it’s enough to drive someone crazy. Anyway, I don’t know when Heartland is supposed to be released or whether it is psychologically thrilling (here’s hoping) but let’s just say hearing a van full of women singing Bone Thugs-N-Harmony “Tha Crossroads” in an absolutely chilling way is enough for me to want to see it.
