Let’s keep it real though, Beyoncé has been more than a little slow to adapt to social media. She joined Tumblr earlier this year and with only four updates on Twitter – it’s fair to say that social media is not Bey’s cup of tea. Then again, it doesn’t have to be – she’s a global phenom without any of it.
So, when Bey (username BaddieBey) joined Instagram the night of the Presidential Election, people were excited but I wanted to wait a minute to see how she would manuever this platform, a whole new world to her.
Would she share glimpses of Blue Ivy, behind the scenes snippets, funny antics, spur of the moment pics? Would we get to see the real Beyoncé?
After almost a month, here’s my verdict: while she seems to be consistent with updating it so far, BaddieBey simply resembles all her other social media platforms which are a bit (I’m sorry to say) dull. Social media is mostly about walking a fine line between interacting and sharing. Beyoncé has always been interested in being a superstar with a controlled exterior; she is the opposite of over-sharing.
On the other hand, it seems that Beyoncé has decided to use her Instagram as a way to showcase her outfits. Which, I think technically places her in the fashion blogger category. Before you puff and moan about the lack of text, please note that there are plenty of bloggers who do not write posts and simply use photos as the main focus.
BaddieBey throws up a few collages of her style and fans eat it up with their likes and comments.
Easy, breezy, beautiful, Instagram covergirl.
Except… I want to be dazzled by these outfits and while she’s obviously well-dressed, I’m not using my fashion smelling salts because I’m swooning over her steez. From designer eyewear to headpieces, Beyoncé tends to keep her look relatively simple and let the accessories do the talking for her.
However, I do applaud her for trying new things and giving her fans another way to connect to her. Maybe she’ll find her groove and her Insta will be tight. Whatever happens, she already has the awkward fashion blogger posing down.
