I love costumes that are different and unique, but it seems that every year there are several figures that become really popular for Halloween. Last year, Borat was everywhere. Apparently, Amy Winehouse is one of the costumes to be this year.  Weeks ago, I heard about people going as Amy Winehouse, especially after the big fight with her husband and if you search through the photos on Flickr, there are many different versions. I’m sure there will be plenty roaming the streets tonight. Poor Amy, please get back to singing.

I love my polaroid camera and I always marvel at fashion editorials that are shot with a polaroid. That is why I like Wendy Bevan so much. Here is another talented photographer who also works with the polaroid camera, Jair Sfez. Here are some images from his portfolio. These are from Androgyny Magazine.

Iliann Loeb has wonderful, easy pieces of knitwear and I’m really drawn to the casual photography and styling of these images.

Why did I not know about this movie?

Released last year in Austria, Klimt is finally making its way to the old U. S. of A. and is playing in limited release in NYC. Really, it looks visually amazing and the talented Malkovich, Malkovich (John) is in it. Must go to check this out before it is no longer available.

I love when looking through various collections, I find that the designers explain their inspiration behind the designs. What I love even more is when you find connective threads with certain types of inspiration. The Ballet Russes, which has been discussed here and here seems to be one of those ongoing muses where people are constantly drawn to the beauty and the artistry of the work.

The designers behind Ostwald Helgason have also been influenced by the Ballet Russes for their A/W 07 collection. Specifically, Diaghilev’s “Le Train Bleu”. (Yes, the fashion website is also named after this ballet) Le Train Bleu was a luxury French overnight express train which carried travelers to the French Rivera. Coco Chanel added to the production by designing the costumes for the dancers. Interestingly, it was the set curtains created by Pablo Picasso for which the main inspiration for Ostwald Helgason is based on.

Here are some images from the collection:

The movement in the curtain is referenced in the model’s movement. Either the clothing or the hair is caught moving in each picture.

One of the interesting little details are the collars of some of the pieces which resemble frames.

On another note, I remembered a photo feature that I liked in L magazine (a local read) where they captured a day in NY with images at specific times. Here are a couple of my favorites:

What I love about most Japanese designers is the sense of artistry and playfulness that seems to be a huge part of the design and aesthetic. Suzuki Takayuki has created a clean, white palette of fantasy with his A/W 2007 collection.

This last one reminds of something I would imagine the Witch (played brillantly by the talented Tilda Swinton) from ”The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe” to wear.

I love that designer Donny Barrios named his line Crispin & Basilio after two fictional characters in a 19th century Filipino novel. Here are some images from the Fall 2007 collection.

Really, who doesn’t love Duckie??? I am one of those people who never got the Blane thing, it’s always going to be Duckie. I’m talking about the Pretty in Pink movie and the choice Andie (Molly Ringwald) makes between best friend Duckie (Jon Cryer) and rich guy Blane (Andrew McCartney). Anyway, here is my favorite part and it always makes me smile. What a great way to kick off the work week, some vintage New Wave fashion and Otis Redding.

I love, love the Fall 2007 Collection for Mjölk. Color, color and more wonderful vibrant color. I think I am in love. I thought they were mostly known for their menswear which I was looking at because I adored the cut, the dandyesque vibe and the color combinations. There are some really stellar pieces for the men. Then I realized that they had some women selections also. Here are some images.

First the men:

Isn’t this sharp? That steel gray offset by the patent candy red.
