Georgia Russell is an a mixed-media artist who transforms ephemera, especially books into beautiful works of art. Here are some images from her series titled The Library. These scupltures are so wonderfully intricate but I must admit that my irrational love of books might prevent me from ever doing something like this…

* Side Note: Hey guys, it’s going to be a little slow in the alchemist’s laboratory for a couple of days due to the holiday and all. I promise that there are exciting things in the works and wonderful changes. Talk to you guys in a few days. Enjoy!

I raved about the Toga A/W 07 collection because I loved the layering of different textures and the styling.

They have their S/S 08 collection up and there are a few interesting items. Overall, I am not as excited for this collection, but there are a few separate pieces that I really like.

Does anybody else remember that episode of an early cycle of America’s Next Top Model, where they tried to capture the girls dressed in gowns in a tank of water? I get what they were going for but they clearly missed the mark when you look at the work of renowned underwater photographer Zena Holloway.

These pictures are absolutely beautiful and her portfolio is equally amazing.

I have to let you in on a little secret. We are not amused. (Yes, I am using the royal plural) We look forward to crisp Fall days where layering is welcomed but not essential. Lately we have been bundling up under wool coats and trying not to freeze our royal a** off.

The reason for all this weather-related angst, is the lack of Fall. I had just been discussing with my friend how we had shifted right from summer to winter. Back in September, I anticipated the wonderful Fall weather to come, but it hardly showed up. It shouldn’t be that humid in October, really. The nerve! Doesn’t Mother Nature realize that I need to be coddled into the cold not just shoved into the deep end? In total, there were probably only 5 blissful days of Fall weather to enjoy.

Which leads me to this article Fall Canceled After 3 Billion Seasons on The Onion,  which cracked me up. We miss you Fall! Please come back.

A Beloved Classic Comes To An End

Fall Cancelled

Some of fall’s most memorable moments

1841: Leaves crumple gently underfoot

1969: Nation charmed by adorable kids bundled up in scarves

1998: A number of highly anticipated weddings showcase stunning foliage

2006: Crisp autumn air makes its final appearance

WASHINGTON, DC—Fall, the long- running series of shorter days and cooler nights, was canceled earlier this week after nearly 3 billion seasons on Earth, sources reported Tuesday.

The classic period of the year, which once occupied a coveted slot between summer and winter, will be replaced by new, stifling humidity levels, near- constant sunshine, and almost no precipitation for months.

“As much as we’d like to see it stay, fall will not be returning for another season,” National Weather Service president John Hayes announced during a muggy press conference Nov. 6. “Fall had a great run, but sadly, times have changed.”

Though it came as a surprise to many, the cancellation was not without its share of warning signs. In recent years, fall had been reduced from three months to a meager two-week stint, and its scheduled start time had been pushed back later and later each year. Still, many Americans continued to hold out hope that it would make a last-minute comeback.

“I guess I should have seen it coming, but it’s still upsetting to think about fall being gone forever,” said Peterborough, NH resident Dale Simmons, who was informed of the cancellation yesterday while waterskiing with his family.  “Maybe other people won’t miss it as much, but I practically grew up watching the leaves change color.”

The annual HRD awards is a celebration of fresh talent showcasing international contemporary diamond jewelry. Out of 1,092 designs entered, 44 laureates were chosen and finally narrowed down this past June at the HRD Awards 2007 Prize Awarding Ceremony titled: A Night at the Opera.

Some of the entries included

Ahluwalia Reena of Canada with her homage to Maria Callas Necklace.

Finalist Hitomi Sasaki of Japan created a head jewel titled ”Chrysanthemum” which used traditional Japanese techniques to make the flowers out of cloth. The jewel contains 59 brillant-cut diamonds.

But the grand prize went to Alina Sossou-Alamorean of France for her stunning interpretation of a cape. First, I have a thing for capes, I love them. They exude a sense of mystery and glamour. Alina’s cape is made out of iron wire draped with 574 rough diamonds, pearl drops and cabochons that all came together into this surreal creation.

I have talked about the wonderful Fall collection of Samantha Pleet before. Anyone who names their designs Chimney Sweep Romper and Dandy Shorts is okay in my book. Now, I want to revisit her latest designs with the video for her Spring/Summer 2008 collection.

One of my favorite books…ever. Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is now a film and I couldn’t be more excited. John Leguizamo, Javier Bardem, gorgeous costumes and beautiful scenery! It looks amazing.
