When I was ten, I wanted to be a writer and would create little stories or plays and make everyone in my family act them out. I self-published my stories and directed mini-movies.

I thought that was pretty bad-ass but Solveig of Brighton is a 10 year-old graffiti artist who’s even tattooed someone. She paints at legal wasteland sites throughout Brighton.

Oh, and she’s part of a graffiti crew titled AGC, which stands for All- Girl Crew.

She’s totally got me beat. Keep it up, shorty!

These illustrations from Daisy Fletcher are whimsical enough for me to think, “oh, how pretty” but with enough of a dark undertone to spark my curiosity.

Because I am a huge nerd who is a lover of typography and movies, I can not get over these movie scenes played out with kinetic typography. These are from some of my favorite movies. Enjoy!

First up, Fight Club.

Next, The Big Lebowski

Finally, Pulp Fiction

I found this set on Flickr by Jolis Paons who created a paper dress out of old phone books.

It looks incredible and it immediately made me think of past Project Runways seasons and I know there was a similar challenge but did not produce anything so stunning.

Jolis sewed, pleated, stuck and glued everything by hand.  AMAZING…

I would so wear this… on a clear and cloudless day of course! ;)

Younity Heart & Soul on stylealchemy
Last Friday, I had the opportunity to attend the Younity “Heart & Soul” Exhibition and Book Launch at Alphabeta in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The show is comprised of 60 women artists who came together to showcase their work. What I love about Younity is that it was founded last year by artists Alice Mizrachi and Toofly because they believed that urban contemporary women artists did not have a properly organized forum to showcase their work. So, they took matters into their own hands.
The show is great and I loved the range of art and the outside graffiti wall was KILLA!

Surrounded by all the great artwork and people, I spied a piece that seemed familiar to me somehow. As I got closer, I realized that it was in the style of uber-fabulous & uber-talented Nubby Twiglet and then I realized that it was a piece by the Nubby Twiglet.

“Harajuku Hijinks” is stunning and I finally got to see a Nubby piece up close and personal!!! Trust me these pictures don’t do it any justice.

If you can, check out this amazing exhibit before it ends on Nov 17th.

“If you’re going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair”

70′s photographer David Hamilton was a master of this soft-focus romantic style. Love it…

Okay, I have a thing for graffiti and art used in urban settings and I am so in love with Blu an Italian street artist living in Argentina. What I find fascinating about his work is that he has produced stop-animation films based on his creatures that he draws on the walls of Argentina. But it’s more than just filming one piece of art, each sequence has to be captured as soon as he draws it and then erased for the next part of the sequence. It’s time consuming but so totally worth it to produce this mini masterpiece.

He also has a book based on four years of his drawings that I am drooling over to possess.

How awesome is this picture? I love the composition of the smoke and the moodiness. Looks like something out of a movie…

Flux Factory Everythin Must Go

The Flux Factory is a gallery and aesthetic warehouse laboratory located in Long Island City, NY. After six years, this location is going to be demolished to make way for some more transportation lines courtesy of the MTA. There have been many shows, installations and artists that have shown at this location and to honor the impending closing at the end of April they have invited different artists to participate in transforming the entire space into one large installation. Expect sculptures, images, videos and performances. For those in the NY area, I would recommend going to check it out before the space is no more. Titled, Everything Must Go will happen until Apr 26th, though Flux Factory will continue at another venue in the future. I will definitely be checking the show out.
