What I love about most Japanese designers is the sense of artistry and playfulness that seems to be a huge part of the design and aesthetic. Suzuki Takayuki has created a clean, white palette of fantasy with his A/W 2007 collection.

This last one reminds of something I would imagine the Witch (played brillantly by the talented Tilda Swinton) from ”The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe” to wear.

I really love the variety of prints that Basso & Brooke use for their lovely dresses. They are beautiful and the Fall 07 collection remind me of subtle watercolors. For instance, the dusty ochre colors swirling about the bottom of this dress (note the silhouette of a classic face lightly imprinted)

Basso & Brooke

can be found in this painting of Norham Castle by Joseph M. W. Turner:

I would be thrilled to be draped in dresses like these. Here are some more delicious prints from the collection.

Love. this. so. much. There is an Art Deco quality about it that is appealing.

Look at the back of this same dress to the far right. What a beauty and the sleeves!!

This reminds me (the hat) so much of Eliza Doolittle (Audrey Hepburn) in ‘My Fair Lady’, where they are at the horse races and she screams out, “Move your blooming arse!”

Now, some images from the Spring 2008 collection. More prints!

Aren’t these images from Anja Frers lovely?

This is my favorite. That deep crimson color contrasted against the stone wall. Beautiful!

Fugahum’s collection is named Doppelganger (which is a word I have always liked; try saying that 5x fast) and they have extended the theme of the double into the styling and photography of the clothing.

Check out the shadows of the models.

It sort of reminds me of the Bram Stoker’s Dracula movie with Winona Ryder, Keanu Reeves and Gary Oldham where Dracula’s shadow is always doing some sort of menacing movement. Yes, it’s eerie but it completely ties into the theme of this collection.

Another item that I really like are capes and this royal blue is perfect for those chilly days that make up the Fall and the beginning of Spring.

I have a cape that is a thrift find but it is brown and not as nice as this one. Will keep my eyes open for something similar.

I love finding photographers and looking through their portfolio whether it is for fashion, photojournalism, etc. I love it all, professional, amateur. As usual, I came across Peter Gehrke and really enjoyed looking through his images. Here are a few favorites:

Lately, I’ve been drawn to editorials that look like they are from another century. Thomas Klementsson is a great photographer and I love these images.

Corinne Day has worked with many magazines including Vogue UK and Vogue Nippon. She is also the woman who took those infamous first shots of a fresh-faced Kate Moss in the series, titled Fifteen.

Her editorials are interesting and I really like this one, Second Nature which ran in Vogue UK November 2006. Shot on location at Tinkers Bubble which is an alternative lifestyle community, it’s high fashion set against the eco-conscious environment.

I absolutely adore Wendy Bevan’s work. Her photography portfolio is wonderful and I believe she uses a polaroid camera to achieve these incredible images. The following series is one of my favorites and reminds of the colonial era, it feels like a New England town by the water and something very similar to The Crucible or Hester Prynne from The Scarlett Letter.

I love this series, High Heel Moonlight by the photographer Roen. I haven’t been able to find too much information about him but these pictures speak volume.

This editorial ran in the Spring 2006 Fashion issue of New York Magazine. Photographed by Alex Majoli and styled by Harriet Mays Powell, I am drawn to the stark juxtaposition between the gorgeous clothing and the decrepit settings. Love the little story that accompanied the lush pictures, though I would totally pay my bills first!

She sold off the family jewels, and the estate is crumbling, but she’ll never give up her gowns.
Keeping Up Appearances
Chapter 1
Driven into penury by an insatiable appetite for gowns, our heroine seeks the comfort of her childhood nursery and her favorite Oscar de la Renta.

Keeping Up Appearances
Chapter 8
The electric bill is six months overdue, but candlelight so perfectly complements her Marc Jacobs lace-trimmed dress. And can she truly be expected to resist that new Ralph Lauren Collection gown?

Keeping Up Appearances
Keeping Up Appearances
Chapter 14
At the end of another taxing day drifting around the house, she ascends to her chambers and falls into a deep sleep, cushioned by the billows of her Dolce & Gabbana.

Keeping Up Appearances
Chapter 23
In a dream, she sees her own reflection. Who cares if the roof’s sprung another leak and the creditors are knocking? A little beaded silk is all she needs to rise above life’s petty annoyances. FIN

Floria Sigismondi’s work is very distinct and unique. Her style is classified with her jittery camerawork. As an artist and photographer, Floria is best known for her videography. She has worked with many different artists, including Marilyn Manson, Christina Aguilera and The White Stripes. Born in Italy to opera singing parents, Floria’s work is at times haunting, dark but always visual.
