Oh my! Roald Dahl was/is still one of my favorite childhood authors and I devoured his books. So, this Tim Walker editorial in British Vogue paying homage to Dahl makes me weak in the knees! With appearances from Tim Burton, Helena Bonham Carter and Karen Elson, this is just extra sugary love on the top of an already exciting week.

Once again, thanks to everyone for entering or supporting stylealchemy’s 1st contest: Fall Into Fall!!!
stylealchemy fall into fall contest
Cue: marching band and whistles

Okay, no more suspense, time to reveal the winner::
drum roll please

Mel from The Thrifting Vignettist
who lamented that because of where she lived, Fall is usually a two-week event that fluctuates from 80 to 20 degree weather (Fahrenheit) and doesn’t last and she was excited about her very limited Fall season. She then proceeded to stun and delight me with this awesome limerick:

Fall is a two-week teaser
A fickle and short-term pleaser
After blistering heat
Before snow and sleet
Fall is the Brutus to my Caesar

Um, yea, I know pretty awesome.

So Mel, you are now the proud owner of a $50 Urban Outfitters card. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!
P.S. I also sent you a confirmation email.

Thanks to everyone for entering, be on the lookout for more contests!!

Hey lovelies!

I wanted to start this week off right with some humor courtesy of one of the funniest men on t.v. today: The Soup’s Joel McHale.
The Soup’s Joel McHale

Here’s a snippet from an interview he did with New York Press magazine this past summer: (I love when he makes fun of Ryan Seacreast)

You were once a guest star on CSI Miami [in 2005 the role was “bank manager Greg Welch”]. Tell me, is there any person in the world who takes himself more seriously than David Caruso?
Oh, well, Flavor Flav, I think. I just think he really thinks he’s going to find love. Him or Bret Michaels. You know what? Let’s just say Tila Tequila. She is dead serious about finding love.

Out of Flavor Flav, Bret Michaels or Tila Tequila, which one would rather have raise your sons [Eddie, who is 3 and his newborn Isaac]:
Which one would I let raise my kids? I would just throw my kids off a bridge. Actually, I would rather have my kids raised by a feral cat, wouldn’t you?

Maybe they’d be much better off just being left in the woods to fend for themselves…
Oh, they’d be much better off. They’d have survival skills and a trade. They’d have skills that would actually be respected and from which they could make money.

If you stacked three apples, which would be taller, the stack of apples, or Seacrest?

Well, what kind of apples?

Macintosh apples are kind of squat, so maybe those?
Yeah, it would have to be those. If they were Golden Delicious then the apples would be taller. Actually, Seacrest is rarely in the office, he just floats around like a gas…like he’s Nosferatu.

Happy First day of Fall!!
This morning I got up and I needed a scarf and a blazer to walk the dog and to honor this shift in weather, I am pleased to announce stylealchemy’s first contest.

Fall Into Fall Contest

stylealchemy Fall Into Fall contest
(photos courtesy of Urban Outfitters)

This is a simple contest:

What I want to know is what are you excited about for the Fall?

That’s it, from clothes to falling leaves, what’s got your toes curling in anticipation??

Grand Prize winner will receive a $50 Urban Outfitters gift card. Oh yea!!

Here’s the catch: Write a lovely limerick!
What’s a limerick?
Well, its a five line poem (usually humorous) written with one couplet and one triplet. Think a, a, b, b, a rhyming scheme.
Here’s my attempt at one:

Contests are always a big hit
Free stuff is great, gotta love it
So write a little rhyme
It won’t take much time
Perhaps you’ll add more to your closet!

Rules:
email me your excellent, inspirational creations to stylealchemy@aim.com
(with the subject: Fall Into Fall contest)
You have until midnight September 30th to send them in.

Good luck and I can’t wait to read your entries!!

In the past few weeks, I’ve seen this print ad all over the subways here in NYC and I always chuckled because it seems so crazy. To be honest, I didn’t know what to make of this except that I thought it was a funny spoof and I figured it had to be an ad but for what??? Kanye is pretty infamous for his ego and loud self-boasting so I find these ads to be hilarious and tongue-in-cheek.

Kanye Ad

At first I didn’t realize that it was actually an ad for Absolut vodka. Remember back in the days when they used to do cool advertisements in the shape of their bottle? This prominent product placement had been replaced on this new advertisement with the subtle tagline: “In an Absolut world”

Now, they’ve moved beyond that and this is their new campaign. I think its brilliant in the sense that I love a good spoof.

I also found this commercial on Youtube. Please click for more hilarity.

When I first started stylealchemy I always envisioned it as some type of outlet for other creative people, a place to gather and share inspiration. It’s a vision that is continually evolving and as a result I put pen to paper and came up with an overview of what stylealchemy is. Here is our official manifesto: a little more insight into what this site is about.

I am so happy that Jabbawockeez won America’s Best Dance Crew!

I love to dance and I remember practicing and learning new steps with friends. I used to love any talent show or school performances that required dance or acting. There’s something about practicing and getting a move down and using that in front of everyone.

The thing that I love about the Jabbawockeez is how tight and precise they are with their movements. Which I know from experience takes a lot of practice and dedication to have everyone be in sync. This crew from San Diego uses masks and gloves to add some drama to their performances. Also, I’m not sure but I think their name comes from a Lewis Carroll poem and if that’s true, then I heart them even more.

Plus, their vibe reminds me of some friends and an ex-boyfriend who used to compete in dance-offs. So, it’s very sentimental to me. Here are some performances. Also, check out MTV overdrive for more videos!

When you click on the MTV link the video will open on another page.

Here are some haute links from the last week:

Seriously, Jennine of The Coveted is on a roll! She has a brilliant tutorial on dip-dyeing tights to create that gradient look that was all over the catwalks. It’s seriously, one of the most ingenious things I’ve seen and it’s easy to make!

Queen Michelle of The Kingdom Of Style reminded me with this post that I have a Garrison/flight cap stored away. I used to wear it a lot but I have a tendency to tire of things and then put them away until I have the urge to wear it again. I think I have the urge to pull it out.

It’s February which means Valentine’s Day is around the corner. If you would like a love-themed post every day until the 14th check out Joanna Goddard’s cute blog.

Pantone has released their Fall 2008 color report. Ohh…pretty, pretty.

Fashion Week is here! Love this look from Boy by Band of Outsiders.

This jacket from Maki Maki Vintage is so beautiful. Apparently, there are others who agree with me because the bidding is really, really high and there are still a few days left. I’m going to keep my eye on it to see what the final price is!

Technically this is for tomorrow but if you’re in the city and want to check it out:

Yes, Chloë Sevigny’s line is hitting Opening Ceremony on Feb 4 and a little bird told me that to celebrate the launch there will be a party that same night at Webster Hall with DJ sets by Paul Sevigny and Benjamin Cho. Maybe you’ll even get a glimpse of Ms. Sevigny herself or better yet have a dance-off.

Enjoy!

Here are some haute links from the last week:

Jennine of The Coveted has a new home for her blog and it looks amazing! Always inspiring, I’m looking forward to see what other things come from her.

Diana of SoFashon has a new Spring 2008  RTW collection that is out-of-this-world. She is definitely someone to keep an eye on.

Alix has the best room. Which she painted herself, by the way. Oh and she lives in Paris. Awesome…

I want this peacock pin from Topsy Turvy Design to satisfy my inner Moulin Rouge diva. It can be made into a pin or hair barrette. Luv. it. lots.

Keeping with the feather theme, my love for altamira nyc intensifies with this post.
