stylealchemyboots

These boots are my winter favorite. I have been wearing them pretty much non-stop for the past three months. With dresses, jeans, shorts, leggings, just about everything. I love fancy shoes and heels just as much as the next girl but lately I’ve been keeping it simple with these boots.

Well, today was a successful day at the thrift store.

I found a couple of plaid shirts that just needed to be a part of my wardrobe, the darker of two is sofa king soft that I’m okay with wearing flannel!! Thrift Shirts on stylealchemy
Then to complete my 90′s flashback, I wandered into the men’s section which is completely underutilized in my opinion and is one of my favorite sections to peruse because there’s so many items that you can adjust to suit my needs. You see that button down shirt can become a dress with a cute belt at the waist, ha!

So, while in this section I wandered into the denim area and found my boyfriend jeans of the moment. Well, not an actual boyfriend that would be weird and random. No, jeans that are not skinny but a little baggy, making me feel like I borrowed them. They sit at the waist so perfectly with the aid of a belt and they are roomy and comfy. I can wear it rolled at the hem or not.

I’m a girl about options!!

Then squished into the sweatshirt section was this awesome leather vest!

I can not begin to explain how much I have been looking for a leather vest and I plan on rockin’ it in so many ways: well that doesn’t really make sense, I mean there’s really only one type of way to rock a vest. Right? Right?
Whatever, the good times will still ensue.

Oh and finally, another vest similar to a marching band outfit which will be bad-ass once I get it tailored to fit.

Now, I think I’m gonna go listen to Pearl Jam and Nirvana.

Thrifting is all about the hunt and discovery. There’s that feeling you get when you find something really special. I find that some of the best places for good thrift finds are dark stores crammed to the rafters. Which you don’t really find in New York.

Last year, I found (for me) probably the best item in a thrift store. Out of the corner of my eye, I spy this jeweled tone dress partially sticking out and immediately move towards it. My excitement increases as I move closer until I’m standing right in front of it. At first glance, the material is in pristine condition, a colorful combination of fuschia, golds, reds and checks.

Imagine my surprise when I pull it off the rack and realize that it is even more special than I first thought. I had found an actual Lanvin dress, which the thrift gods had led me to.
Lanvin
The skirt is very structured, billowing out from the hips and tapering at the knee with a sash to wrap around the waist.

The best part is the price = $8
Now, I need to find somewhere special to wear it.

Lately when I see fur coats, it’s either little old ladies strolling down the street or stylish young women rocking it their own way. Images of lovely ladies on the street style blogs and the wonderful Rhiannon give us fresh, interesting ways to think about styling it. Of course, there are many varying opinions on the matter of wearing or not wearing fur. To me, vintage furs feel like a type of recycling plus there’s that old-school look I’m after.

However, in the back of mind, Margot Tenenbaum resides as one of the queens of the quirky and I can finally live out that fantasy with this thrift store find.

                    Faux Fur Coat

This little faux fur number is perfect for acting out my most melancholic and contemplative moments. Or maybe I’ll just wear it when I’m frustrated with a bout of writer’s block.

I also scored this purse and scarf.
