First things first, HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Welcome to the first post of 2013. Whether you rang in the New Year like this. Or like this. It doesn’t matter. Maybe you went out with friends, got drunk, went to three parties, or kept it low-key, went to church, and spent time with your family. Maybe you went to bed early after watching a movie and missed all the hoopla. These are ALL great ways to ring in the new year. All that really matters is that you are happy. I took the above picture last Thursday. Three days after Hurricane Sandy blew into town. Two full days after having the devastation that she left behind fully ingrained into my consciousness. On Thursday, I walked around Brooklyn, surveyed the damage, talked to people, shared stories, found ways to be helpful and felt my beloved city take in the warmth and hope from its citizens. At one crosswalk, I happened to glance up and saw these red hearts dangling from a wire. Now, I’m used to seeing ghost shoes but this was the first time I had ever seen a pair of red hearts. As cheesy as it sounds, I felt a camaraderie with whoever had thrown them up there. I couldn’t be sure that it was because of Hurricane Sandy...

Welcome to November and our latest theme which celebrates and examines all things having to do with HOME. We tend to think of home as the place where we grow up, the people that we live with, the places that we frequent. Unfortunately, for some the concept of home, is more complex than the place where you rest your head. This month we will examine all the traditional and non-traditional forms of home.

Do you know what time it is? It’s SWOON time. Let’s take a quick look at some things that are making me weak in the knees lately. 1) Anyone who knows me personally knows that I love Bill Murray. Most of my favorite movies from childhood and from recent years has his face all up in it. There was a time in the late 2000s when reports were coming out of Brooklyn that Bill Murray was randomly showing up at people’s parties and bars and hanging with them. And I never wanted to be at lackluster bar more in my life.  Needless to say, I need this Bill Murray coloring book. Like need. Call me a hipster (don’t you dare) or someone with supreme taste (that’s more like it) but...
