Santigold has been on my radar since 2007, back when she was Santogold. Click here to read an early post on her. Side note: I still blast You’ll Find A Way (Switch & Graeme remix) every once in awhile. To me, Santi White has always stood out as a musician marching to the beat of her own drummer, not overly concerned with what the “establishment” has to say. Her latest video, titled “The Keepers” is a gem of social commentary, mostly on how disconnected we are from real human interaction. Directed by Santi, the video is set against the once idyllic suburban backdrop of the cherished family dinner, we see how far our family values have changed. Plastic surgery has become something that is revered and applauded while some are hypnotized by the mindless...

No one can deny that there’s a certain amount of freedom and independence to be gained by getting your driver’s license. Seriously, it’s been culturally ingrained into our collective consciouness that this is a serious rite of passage. To act of getting behind the wheel of a vehicle and going pretty much anywhere is an amazing concept once you actually experience it. There’s an enormous amount of responsibility one holds in getting behind the wheel of a car. Not only do you have to be aware of your surroundings and worry about yourself but also to be hyper-aware of other people that you are sharing the road with. In my previous post, I talked about The New Music Festival and being able to see and interact with a few independent and up-and-coming musical acts. If you missed that post, clicky-click here to read through. To reiterate, I absolutely love the concept behind their mission of helping mostly independent and under the radar artists and talent “rise to its highest potential based solely on its merit, without regard to its financial resources or connections.” Below, are just a few artists I got to meet and photograph. First up is Ms. Erin Barra, a soulful, indie pop singer with a distinctive sense of style. Check out her new music video. Also, here is a great behind the scenes video of Erin on tour. I really love seeing independent artists pursue their passions and it’s...

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending the New Music Festival at the legendary Webster Hall in New York City. I loved the concept behind their mission of helping mostly independent and under the radar artists and talent “rise to its highest potential based solely on its merit, without regard to its financial resources or connections.” There was so much to see and take in, that I’m going to divide coverage of the New Music Festival into two posts. Filled with interesting panels and an array of performances, I also got to take pictures on the red carpet and chat with a few of the artists. Some of the stand-outs from the opening night included The Royal Concept who headlined. This indie-pop band from Stockholm, Sweden is...
